Reidsville native Angela R. Ballentine has been named interim president of Vance-Granville Community College.
Ballentine was the college’s vice president of instruction.
Ballentine, who lives in Raleigh, has worked at VGCC since 1991, first as an instructor and then leading the radiography program. She was named VGCC Faculty Member of the Year in 1996 and became dean of health sciences in 1998 before being promoted to vice president of instruction in 2007.
She was instrumental in the creation and implementation of the four Early College High Schools that VGCC operates in partnership with local public school systems.
A Rockingham County native, Ballentine earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at Greensboro College and a certification from the Moses Cone Hospital School of Radiologic Technology in 1987.
She worked as a radiologic technologist and mammography specialist for several years before joining VGCC. She later earned a master’s degree in adult and community college education and a doctorate in higher education administration at N.C. State.
She is also a member of the Oxford Rotary Club and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Kendra Shay Stratton of Eden participated in the Governor’s Page Program in Raleigh. Kendra spent a week providing administrative support as a page for the Department of Commerce for the week of Sept. 12-16.
The Governor’s Page Program provides students with an opportunity to gain knowledge of the roles and functions of state government. Some of their responsibilities include filing documents, assisting in mass mailings, answering telephones and delivering agency messages.
Kendra is the daughter of Kenny G. Stratton Jr. and is a student at Tarheel Challenge Academy.
The one-week program is open to high school students ages 15 to 18 who are in good academic standing.

Jane McIntyre, 86, of Eden brought home the silver medal in the 200-yard backstroke and the bronze in the 100-yard backstroke in the 2011 Summer National Senior Games held in Houston in June.
McIntyre has been swimming competitively since 2006.
She also swam in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle competitions.
Gerry Hulst, 69, of Eden, also competed, swimming in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.
