GREENSBORO -- Emergency officials were responding to several downed tree calls around the city this morning, and nearly two dozen minor car accidents related to the heavy downpour of rain, according to Greensboro Police.

More than a dozen additional accidents, mostly fender-benders, were also called in to the state Highway Patrol throughout the morning. None of the accidents called in involved fatalities but more than a few involved cars hydroplaning, according to a Highway Patrol supervisor and Susan Danielsen, the public information officer for Greensboro police.

The southern Piedmont, including Guilford, is under a flash flood warning until 2 p.m, according to the National Weather Service.

In Greensboro, trees were reported in the roadway near the intersections of Bryan Boulevard and Fleming Road, South Eugene and Interstate 85, and South Bunker Hill Road near Interstate 40.

A motorist also spotted a tree leaning on a power line in the 1200 block of West Meadowview near Coliseum Boulevard.
