— Tough economic times have taken their toll on another store in Greensboro.

Dottie Cooke, owner of Jack Cecil (2920-D Martinsville Road; 286-1100), cited dwindling sales in the past three years in her decision to close Sept. 30.

Cooke plans to concentrate on Taste Yogurt Bar (2417-D Lawndale Drive; 285-9161), which she opened last year, and Triad Local First.

The nonprofit she helped create encourages shoppers to buy from local, independently owned retailers.

Jack Cecil is now having a storewide closeout sale.

Everything is 20 percent to 60 percent off.

The boutique sells clothes (BB Dakota, Velvet, etc.), shoes (Toms) and bath, gift, household and jewelry items.

TSR ladies event

Specials, giveaways and hors d’oeuvres are some of the highlights of a ladies day and night out event at TSR Ladies Apparel & Accessories (4500 Groometown Road, Greensboro; (294-3354).

The event is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 29.

The store sells women’s clothes, including sweaters, jackets, dresses and pantsuits and accessories such as handbags, scarves and jewelry.

Coupon class

A great way to spend part of National Coupon Month (you didn’t get the memo?) is attending a free coupon class.

Local coupon guru Jessie Alonzo is hosting the class at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Walkertown Public Library (2969 Main St. in Walkertown).

Bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank and be entered into a prize drawing.

You can also bring coupons to swap and coupons that have expired to donate to troops and families overseas.

That’s because they can use them up to six months after the coupons expired.

Register at coupon101.eventbrite.com.
