No. 15 at Sedgefield is a day at the beach

GREENSBORO -- Those aren't a bunch of Myrtle Beach tourists who took a bad left and wound up on the sand along hole No. 15.

Nope, the women you see at Sedgefield Country Club in bikinis and board shorts are models hired to pitch the vacation lifestyle for the Wyndham Championship.

They're a fixture at the Sedgefield Country Club PGA event, and for the first time this year regular attendees can get into a cabana alongside the models.

"We're pretty much just watching golf and enjoying ourselves," said Anne-Marie Rhodes, a model from Sanford who has worked Wyndham Beach (that's what we're calling it) for the last five years.

People who can play three holes in a maximum of six putts in a fan area can get next to the sunbathers. And there are two other contests attendees can play to get there.

But other fans have found ways to be some part of the beach.

"We do see a lot of binoculars," said Rhodes, digging her toes into the sand, with oversized dark sunglasses on her freckled nose. "Players wave, too."

Lee Blakely, a Sedgefield member, thinks that maybe the beach could be a permanent fixture at the club. Her 6-year-old son Mark won the putting challenge to get them in the cabana.

"This would be great for parties," she said.
