GREENSBORO -- You can get serious about building sand castles with these guys.
Near the Wyndham Championship's fan pavilion around No. 18, two guys shoveled and sprayed down about three truckloads of sand.
"What are you building, one of those platforms?" asked Patrick Harsch, a crew member from Team Sandtastic who will be building sand castles this week.
The beginnings of the sand sculpture in a 5-foot-high pile of trucked-in beach looked more like engineering than sculpture.
"Yeah, just spray up here," said Dan Belcher, who flung shovel-loads of white play sand at Harsch's feet while he doused the pile with water from a hose.
These are the guys who will build the castles and logos in sand around the course. And they'll lead workshops in an area for kids (and grown-up kids at heart) who want pointers before that late-summer beach trip.
Those sessions will occur daily at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. through the tournament.
But how does one become a professional sand castle builder?
"Make a lot of bad decisions along the way," said Harsch, "and know a guy."
