This bedroom community in the heart of the Triad offers an array of activities for families and outdoor enthusiasts.

Situated between Greensboro and Winston-Salem, the town covers 12.2 square miles, and its 17,500 residents have access to six parks.

Downtown’s Harmon Park features a wedding gazebo and a summer movie series. Dog and outdoor skateboarding areas were recently added to Fourth of July Park.

Nature lovers are drawn to the walking trails at Civitan Park, which also attracts softball and volleyball players.

Kayakers, canoers and fishermen flock to Century Lake Park, and Beeson Athletic Complex is the host of numerous area athletics tournaments.

Fishermen wanting more seclusion can toss a line at Old Kernersville Lake Park, which is tucked in a residential neighborhood.

The 426-acre Triad Park, a venture between Forsyth and Guilford counties, attracts visitors from throughout the Triad. Ongoing development for the park will be completed in several phases.

Heather Wood, marketing and community relations for the Kernersville Parks and Recreation Department, said the parks are always filled with visitors. She said they are a good selling point for families who are looking to move to the area.

“We have so many parks within so many distances. Some parks are within walking distance of neighborhoods,” Wood said.

“And, of course, parks are free. It’s a good way to get outside.”
