GREENSBORO -- The number of hungry people seeking help from Greensboro Urban Ministry is soaring this summer, offiicals with the non-profit say.
In June, Urban Ministry officials say they helped 2,369 individuals filling 997 food orders with 1,613 bags of food as part of their emergency food program. That was an increase of 632 people from May. Emergency food orders are running an average of a 20% increase for the previous months.

The organization is seeking money and food donations to meet the rising need through summer. Several small food drives are underway by different organizations. Congregations, people and groups willing to collect food for Urban Ministry can call Val Marshall at the Urban Ministry Food Bank, 553-2672.
