GREENSBORO - Winter Light Gallery & Art Studios at 410 Blandwood Ave. will close when its lease expires Nov. 15, the gallery announced today.

The gallery doesn't have enough artists renting space there to cover lease expenses, said Phyllis Sharp, one of the artists in the cooperative. It has studio space for 13 artists, but two spaces are vacant and two other artists would like to sublease their spaces.

Sharp attributed the situation to the economy and the gallery's location away from South Elm Street, where several other art galleries are located.

"Even though the house is gorgeous and the facility is perfect for artists, ... it's off the beaten path as far as the general public is concerned," she said.

Its artists are looking for another space to rent together. In the meantime, the gallery has a full schedule of art shows and guest artists.
