Savvy Shopper: Furniture store sees repeat customers

— Like the economy, Jay Busey’s furniture store has seen its ups and downs.

But a large number of repeat customers has Busey feeling confident that his family-run Triad Furniture Outlet (1589 Skeet Club Road; 812-8736) will be in business for years to come.

“That’s very encouraging because when you get that kind of business, you don’t have to explain that you’re good guys,” said Busey, 71, a Summerfield resident. “They know right off the bat that we’ll treat them fairly, and we offer great products at a great price.”

The 13,000-square-foot store, which opened in 2002, sells items, including hand-painted furniture, antique reproductions, leather furniture, mattresses and showroom samples.

“Our inventory does change frequently,” said Alyson Crater, 37, Busey’s daughter.

They also sell a good number of unusual furniture pieces. For example, Busey points to a mahogany console that’s hand-painted with red floral designs. Then he points to a chest with three thick mahogany drawers with a crackle finish.

“Nobody gives you a drawer like that,” he said. “I mean, that’s solid mahagony right there with dovetails.”

The prices aren’t cheap. But neither is the furniture. Want a $600 leather sofa? Sorry. You’ll have to shop somewhere else.

“But you can buy one a heck of a lot nicer for $800 or $900 or $1,000 from us that’s just made better,” Busey said. “And it’s got better leather. The leather will age at the same color.”

Triad Furniture Outlet is in the Oak Hollow Square shopping center near N.C. 68 and Wendover Avenue.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

New farmer’s market

A farmer’s market will soon be opening in the Quaker Village shopping center.

Details are still being worked out, but the owners of the planned Faucette Farms farmer’s market hope to have it open within a few weeks.

Faucette Farms is a certified organic farm in Browns Summit.

If all goes according to plan, the new market will also offer items from a baker and a beef vendor.

Hours will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

The market will be near Starbucks and Charlie’s Tobacco Outlet.

Quaker Village is at 5605 West Friendly Ave. near Guilford College.

Visit http://faucettefarms.com/ for more information about the farm.

Seafood at Bestway

Bestway (2113 Walker Ave.; 272-4264), a neighborhood corner grocer in Greensboro, is pretty well-known for its huge beer selection.

But the store’s owners are also hoping you’ll keep them in mind when it comes to seafood.

The store recently began receiving seafood from New River Fish Co., the same business that supplies local restaurants, including 1618 West Seafood Grill.

Seafood for sale includes shrimp, tuna, mahi-mahi, flounder and salmon.

Coupons for soldiers

Instead of tossing those expired coupons in the trash, send them to our troops.

Military families can used expired coupons up to six months after the expiration date at commissaries overseas.

Only manufacturer’s coupons can be used, from sources including the newspaper and the Internet.

Visit this website for more information.

Sylvia’s Outlet

Sylvia’s Outlet ( 4654 U.S. 29, Greensboro; 621-6466) received a large selection of summer clothes from a variety of designers.

The store also has Ryka Mary Jane toning shoes on sale for $20.

Lori Greiner travel, tote and cell phone bags are also for sale.

All items in the store are 15 percent off through June. But if you mention my column, you get a 20 percent discount Tuesday through Thursday.

Target trade-ins

Target stores in the Triad recently began an electronics trade-in program.

The store chain launched the program nationwide earlier this year.

Here’s the deal. Bring your unwanted gadgets, including cell phones, iPads and video game systems to the store.

In exchange, you get credit toward your next purchase or a Target gift card.

Visit www.target.nextworth.com for more information.

Lowes Foods club

Lowes Foods is launching a new club involving produce provided by local farmers.

Locally Grown Club members get six to 10 varieties of assorted produce in a box each week, which may include seasonal items, such as zucchini, yellow squash, green peppers, blueberries, sweet potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes and peaches.
