SALISBURY — “Hey, y’all — let’s posse up. Any first-time shooters?”
It’s the monthly meeting of the Old North State Posse, a gathering of cowboy action shooters.
Their meeting place: the Rowan County Wildlife Association. The scene looks like something out of a Hollywood Western.
Men and women are dressed in Old West garb — pistols hang from holsters slung over long skirts or trousers held up with suspenders. Everyone wears cowboy hats.
The landscape is dry and dusty.
This morning, they will fire pistols, rifles and shotguns at targets from freight cars and a wooden horse called Lightning.
