Judge leaning toward restraining order in White Street landfill case

Wednesday, June 1, 2011
(Updated Thursday, June 2 - 12:52 pm)

— A judge said today she is leaning toward granting an order that would prevent the city from signing a contract to handle household waste.

Judge Patrice Hinnant did not make a ruling after a hearing that lasted more than two hours Wednesday morning in Guilford County Superior Court.

Hinnant said she wanted to review a stack of papers several inches thick. She said she might rule later today or Thursday morning on the request for a temporary restraining order.

Five city residents and two advocacy groups filed suit Tuesday to seek a temporary restraining order.

NC Central grad. Black female judge appointed by Perdue. I'll hold my breath in anticipation.

Although there are no valid grounds, you can expect this judge to issue the temporary restraining order. However, "temporary" is all it will be. City Council has gone this far with this project and they aren't going to let it get derailed at this point.
No surprise, but so far, all the media that I've seen reporting this, is slanting it towards the side of those against using the landfill.
Only in Greensboro would the wishes of a very few be placed ahead of the good of the majority.

It will be interesting to see how long this might drag out. 6 months and there will be a new council seated and it's gonna be alot different looking than the one currently in place and alot less likely to re-open White St regardless of the cost savings.

Black female judge. I know her answer already. She will take the racist path and ignore the facts.

And which path are you taking?

Mr. JMS

I'm taking the path that is best for Greensboro as a whole and the path that respects and follows the law.
I doubt Judge Hinnant will do the same.

Translation: Mr JMS is taking the racist path.

He's judging her on her skin color, not her professionalism or how she handles the law. She's black, so of course she must rule in favor of White Street residents . . . it's impossible that she'd rule any other way.

Mr. JMS

How about all those racist in districts 1 & 2 that have falsely cried racism? Aren't they judging Mayor Knight, Wade, Rakestraw and Thompson on the color of their skin and not on their professionalism or how they handles issues?

"Young said it’s “a little far-fetched” to say that a long-term contract means the city is seeking to expand White Street. “We haven’t yet negotiated anything related to that aspect with either firm,” he said. “The law doesn’t require these procedural steps for contemplation,” the city manager said.

This lawsuit has no merit, but that will not matter with a black woman judge. With the people from districts 1 & 2 who needs enemies. They have once again divided this city and are trying to keep this city from moving forward. Thanks to this selfish gang from districts 1 & 2 Greensboro is rapidly becoming another Soul City, NC. Poor, no services, poor performing schools, high crime, old delapidated houses and bankrupt. Thank you districts 1 & 2.

With people like the group in districts 1 & 2, Greensboro is quickly becoming another Soul City, NC. A city that is poor, no services, no businesses, old boarded up dilapidated houses and basically an eye sore to the state. With the people in districts 1 & 2 who need enemies. They have divided this city once again and it is they who continue to keep this city from moving forward.

Abruti and Mr. JMS, could the two of you be any more racist?

Judge Hinnant is a respected jurist who served as the president of the Greensboro Bar Association, was elected four times county-wide as a District judge, and was most recently elected to her current term as a Superior Court judge. Far from being a "divider," Judge Hinnant has repeatedly drawn support from people across the county.

In NO WAY am I a racist. We'll see real soon if Judge Hinnant is or not. And by the way I think you are wrong. Hinnant was not "elected" to her current Superior Court position. She was appointed by the liberal left wing governor Bev. Perdue.

Of course she will grant the restraining order!

Guilford County judge Angela C. Foster RULED that calling the police and posting a no trespassing sign was an unlawful act and considered STALKING… ???

It’s true! And if you look at the case (thinking you might get clarity) it only gets worse!

Some Judges in Guilford County are worse than the criminals who stand before them.

At least the criminals didn’t swear an oath to uphold the LAW.

Look at other landfills that are near middle class (mostly white) in Winston Salem and Kernersville...how come this Southern Law group did not file lawsuits regarding these landfills????? Not their cup of Rev. Sharpton aye?

If you want to play the who's-the-bigger-racist game, take it somewhere else. This is ridiculous.
