Pumpkin and miso soups. Korean spicy sweet-and-sour pork or rice cakes in sauce. Noodles and dumplings. These are just some of the items you’ll find on the lunch buffet at Khan Mongolian Grill and Hibachi (4929 W. Market St., Suite 2108, Greensboro; 297-1213).
The all-you-can-eat buffet ($7.95) is offered for lunch daily and includes an assortment of Asian dishes, including some Korean specialties. A lunch menu of hibachi and teriyaki entrees ($5.95-$7.95) and combinations ($8.95-$12.95) is also offered.
The dinner menu features hibachi or teriyaki meats and vegetables ($6.95-$9.95) and combinations of both ($10.95-$13.95). Marinated Korean-style barbecue ($9.95-$11.95) and clay pot vegetable and seafood dishes also are offered.
Khan offers a Mongolian-style build-your-own-bowl in which patrons may choose a protein (meat, seafood, tofu), vegetables, sauce and rice or noodles. The items are cooked to order on the grill.
Khan Mongolian Grill and Hibachi is adjacent to FantaCity International Mall and Super G Mart. It is open from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Mark’s opens
Mark’s (387-0410) has opened at 616 Dolley Madison Road in Greensboro.
The restaurant, in the space formerly occupied by Bistro Sofia, is helmed by Chef Mark Freedman (Mark’s on Westover, Level 2) and offers “casual fine dining.”
In addition to a dining room, the restaurant features a 37-seat bar and offers a menu that includes Kurabuta Pork Chops, Paella With Lobster, Grilled Ostrich, Kobe Burger, Lamb Sliders, Maine Lobster/Crab Roll and Warm Spinach Salad.
Lunch prices range from $7 to $14 with dishes such as Tamari and Blue Agave Grilled Chicken Salad, Pimento-Chipotle Grilled Cheese, Cuban Sandwich and Grilled Salmon.
Mark’s is open from 11:30 to 2 p.m. for lunch and 6 to 10 p.m. for dinner Monday through Saturday. The bar will remain open a little later on weekends.
New home-style eatery
Country Kettle Restaurant (3605 Groometown Road, Greensboro; 294-5105) has opened at Sedgefield Village.
The restaurant, in the former location of Rio Grande, offers a daily home-style meat and vegetable lunch plate ($6.25 for one vegetable to $7.75 for three) such as salmon cakes and pinto beans on Tuesday and chicken and dumplings and lima beans and corn on Friday. Other vegetables include macaroni and cheese, home-style mashed potatoes and green beans. Vegetable plates are $1.50 for one vegetable to $6 for four. All plates are served with a choice of biscuit or corn bread.
Ribeye steaks ($9.99 6-ounce, $12.99 10-ounce) are offered every day, and prime rib ($12.99) is offered for dinner Friday and Saturday and all day Sunday.
Sandwiches include hamburgers, grilled pimento cheese, fried bologna and chicken salad made from baked chicken. Hand-cut, seasoned home fries are offered with sandwiches or may be ordered as a side with additional toppings such as green peppers and chili.
The restaurant also offers breakfast all day long with the likes of omelets, stuffed breakfast sandwiches, homemade biscuits, pancakes and waffles.
Ask about the daily cobbler. A daily pie or cake will soon be offered.
Hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday. A second location may open on U.S. 70 near GTCC’s Greensboro campus.
Lunch changes
Some changes to mention on the lunch landscape of downtown Greensboro.
Riva’s Trattoria (257 N. Greene St.; 334-9989) now serves lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. only on Thursday and Friday. Dinner continues to be served from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5:30 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Center City Bar and Grille (219-A S. Elm St.; 271-4227) has stopped serving lunch altogether.
The restaurant is no longer offering home-style meat and two daily specials.
Instead, Center City has gone back to its original concept by offering a menu of pub food that includes burgers such as The Hell ($7) with jalapeno relish and the gut-busting The Bully ($15) with four patties, four cheeses and toppings.
Other items include sandwiches such as Chicken Salad ($7), Big BBQ ($7) and wraps such as Mandarin Chicken ($7) and Shrimp BLT ($8). Starters include fried jalapenos, wings and fried Pepper Jack logs.
Thursday night is Latin night with a DJ and specials on Mexican beers and tequilas.
Center City hours are 5 p.m. to midnight Monday and Tuesday and 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Thai eatery to open
Rosemary Thai and International Cuisine (4715-A High Point Road, Greensboro) is expected to open soon, offering Asian bowls such as Thai-style Sukiyaki and rice noodle soups, traditional Thai curries and other specialties such as Pad Thai and Basil Chicken.
New menu items
Opa! Greek Cuisine (200 S. Elm St., Greensboro; 378-9876) is mixing things up with new items on the menu each week.
On any given week, you might find Baked Whole Red Snapper ($19.50), Roasted Leg of Lamb ($17) or Grilled Beef Tenderloin Skewer ($16).
In addition to Friday and Saturday night Greek bouzuki music, the jazz trio Incognito performs each Wednesday evening.
New dinner items
The Sub Spot (3709-D Battleground Ave., Greensboro; 285-7179) at Brassfield Shopping Center is offering Mediterranean specialties after 5 p.m. including chicken or beef shawarma (shaved roast beef served fast-food style in a pita), kafta (meatballs) and falafel. The shop also offers chicken and kafta kebobs with sides of hummus and tabouli salad.
Weekly specials
In addition to steaks, burgers, oysters and seafood, Green’s Supper Club (4735 U.S. 29 North; 621-3444) is now offering a home-style dinner ($7.95) on Tuesday and Wednesday.
On any given week, you might find chicken pie or pork chops — this week’s offerings. Two sides and a dessert, such as brownies or strawberry shortcake, round off each meal.

Knives sharpened
Stop by The Extra Ingredient (801-D Friendly Center Road, Greensboro; 299-9767) at Friendly Shopping Center and get your knives sharpened on Saturday.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a representative of the Wusthof knife company will sharpen no more than three Wusthof blades per customer. The store will have specials on Wusthof knives, gifts with purchases and drawings.

Vets are getting an early Memorial Day treat from Panera Bread.
From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, all Triad locations of Panera Bread are offering buy-one-get-one-free menu items to active and retired military service folks. Choose two items of equal or lesser value. All you have to do is present your military ID or show up in uniform.
