GREENSBORO — Wendy Enochs, who has been a judge since 1994, was named this week as the new chief judge for Guilford County District Court.
Enochs, 44, replaces Joseph E. Turner, who this afternoon will be sworn in as a Superior Court judge for Guilford County.
"I'm very excited and proud," said Enochs, who begins her new duties Friday.
The chief District Court judge is in charge of magistrates and scheduling judges for District Court, as well as presiding over cases. The chief justice of the state Supreme Court made the appointment.
Now the governor must appoint someone to fill out Turner's term as a District Court judge. The local bar association will make nominations later this month for the governor to consider.
