UNCG alumna Beth Leavel has been nominated for a Tony Award for her leading role in the Broadway musical “Baby It’s You!”
Leavel won a Tony Award in 2006 for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in "The Drowsy Chaperone."
In nominations announced today in New York, Leavel again was nominated for best performance by an actress in a leading role in a musical. She plays Florence Greenberg, who changed the recording industry when she discovered The Shirelles and created Scepter Records, becoming the music industry’s first female powerhouse.
Leavel earned her master’s degree in acting and directing at UNCG in 1980.
The 2011 Tony Awards will be handed out June 12.
