Update: Furniture Market Authority CEO stepping down

Monday, March 21, 2011
(Updated 3:53 pm)

— The High Point Market Authority announced Monday that its president and CEO will leave his position effective April 30.

Brian Casey, who has been in his position since 2006, joined the market at a time when attendance was dropping and Las Vegas was beginning its own competitive market

Casey will be on hand for the April market, after which he will leave to become the new general manager of the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center on May 2.

As general manager, Casey will be responsible for attracting trade show business to the facility, as well as potential clients and events for the Cleveland Medical Mart. He will also oversee all departmental functions including construction, operations, finance, and leasing, while implementing the strategic positioning and marketing plans for the facility, its tenants and trade shows.

In High Point, Casey had worked to improve the local transportation system during the semi-annual market, persuaded hotels to minimize high rates and promote the High Point Market as the original market where the best exhibitors could be found.

For exhibitors, he promoted that rents in High Point’s buildings were much more affordable than those at World Market Center in Las Vegas.

The market authority said it will begin a search for a new CEO immediately.

For those of us who have worked with Brian he remained always the ROCK in what was many times a very stormy situation. We wish him well in Cleveland. Those who are involved in searching for a replacement should recall that bringing in another 'outsider' to run the Authority can only benefit the image of the entire High Point Market system, in particular in view of the fact that much of the prime market real estate will be owned and operated by one entity which assuredly will attempt to 'carry a big stick!' The Market is in desperate need of much more International partcipation as we grasp the realities of a global economy, not just tenants but also buyers. Casey did his best to bring this to fruition during some very difficult economic times for Global Furniture Industry. Good Luck Brian!
