But NO awards for news reporting? Isn't the N&R a NEWSpaper?

Don't be a punk, rooster.
22 awards for excellence says it all. Congratulations to the N&R and its tremendous talents, for not only persevering through challenging times in the industry, but prospering in their art.

That's not entirely correct, Rooster.

Morgan Glover, our education reporter, writes for News. So does columnist Jeri Rowe. And much of the N.C. A&T reporting that Gerald, Jonnelle and Ed did appeared in News. The General Excellence award also takes into account news coverage.

Interestingly, only about 6 or 7 of 30 categories are for quote-unquote news coverage. Here's the list of 2009 winners in the N&R's circulation category. (The 2010 list isn't up yet.)

the N&R doesn't "report" the news. it does nothing more than regurgitate AP wire stories. it is nothing more than a news aggregator along the lines of Drudge only with more hubris.
no doubt the Palace Guards will disagree and like an overly pampered and egotistical Academy Award winning starlet will believe in thier percieved greatness.

... and, yet, here you are ...

I've been especially impressed with the AP's coverage of the Guilford County School System, our local governments and law enforcement, OB. I suppose you'd like your local paper to maintain bureaus in DC, New York, LA, and internationally so they can provide home-grown coverage of national and international stories? Somehow I doubt you'd be willing to pay for that subscription. ;-)

What a joke.
The N&R wins awards as one of the Palace guards of the new regime. America is burning from within and the so called "Journalists" of the N&R are asleep at the wheel.
Journalism is indeed Dead!

Even though I disagree with some of your opinions, and endorsements of political candidates, congratulations!
