LEXINGTON (AP) — Joe Hege, who served in the state House for 18 years, has died. He was 85.
Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington says Hege died Monday. His cause of death is unknown.
Hege, a Republican from Davidson County, was first elected to the House in 1966. He served nine terms.
He also served briefly as Davidson County sheriff and in the administration of former Gov. Jim Holshouser.
Joe Hege III told the Winston-Salem Journal his father had many friends who were Democrats as well as Republicans.
Services are scheduled Thursday at Pilgrim Reformed Church near Lexington.
