GREENSBORO -- Olympic and world silver medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White won their third consecutive ice dance title, leading a 1-2-3 sweep by skaters from their rink in Canton, Mich.

No American has won an Olympic or world title in ice dance, a streak Davis and White could end at the championships March 21-27 in Tokyo.

Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are the only ones to beat Davis and White in the last two years, in Vancouver and at the world championships. But with this performance, the Americans served notice that they are second to none.

The steam was still rising from the ice after the Olympic and world silver medalists' fiery tango, which showcased their exquisite edge quality and innovative lifts. And the pairs teams might want to take note of those spins, because few in either discipline did them as well.

Davis and White finished with 185.48 points. Siblings Maia and Alex Shibutani were second with 173.18 points, while Madison Chock and Greg Zuerlein were third at 154.62.

"We're on the right track," White said. "What we need to do is prepare ourselves and go out and skate the program like we know we can. The material has given us the best opportunity we can hope for to win the world gold medal. It's just a matter of refining every detail and getting the emotion and character across.

"It's just little things now," he added. "But it amounts to one big thing, and that's what we hope to achieve."
