GREENSBORO  —  Sponsorships and donations from the NCCJ Brotherhood/Sisterhood Citation Award Dinner on Nov. 17 have reached the highest fundraising total ever achieved in the 44-year history of the event, the nonprofit said in a news release Monday.

Monetary and in-kind donations currently total $288,100, and donations are still coming in.

The Citation Award Dinner is the largest single source of funding for the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) of the Piedmont Triad’s annual programs and operations. For 2011, revenue generated by the dinner represent more than 50 percent of the organization’s budgeted income.

“A fundraising success of this magnitude shows that NCCJ’s supporters connect with our vision of a community standing united for respect, understanding and inclusion,” said Shirley Frye, who chaired the event with her husband, Henry. “Contributors jumped at the chance to help make that vision a reality.”

The 2010 Citation Award Dinner was the largest ever with more than 1,000 attendees and 413 sponsors and donors. The event recognized High Point attorney Jim Morgan and former Greensboro Mayor Jim Melvin as 2010 Brotherhood/Sisterhood Citation Award recipients.
