Coming soon -- tonight, actually -- to a TV screen near you: Alston vs. Allen in 3D.

Time Warner Cable announced Friday it will air Versus' broadcast of No. 1 Oregon (9-0) at Cal (5-4) in 3D. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. today.

The Pac-10 matchup features two former high school stars from Greensboro.

Remene Alston, a redshirt senior from Page, a backup tailback in Oregon's high-scoring, read-option offense. Alston, who plays behind Heisman Trophy candidate LaMichael James, is the Ducks' third-leading rusher with 312 yards and has scored five touchdowns in seven games.

Keenan Allen, last season's News & Record player of the year at Northern Guilford, sat out last week at Washington State after injuring his right knee in pregame warmups.

Allen returned to practice Monday and is expected to play against Oregon.

Allen has played in eight games as a freshman, starting six at wide receiver. He's the Bears' second-leading receiver with 32 catches, and his five TD receptions lead the team. Allen also has a rushing touchdown, and he is among the Pac-10 leaders in kick-off returns.

The live telecast on channel 1333 is available to Versus subscribers who have 3D-capable TV sets and glasses.

Cable customers who have watched 3D programming before can simply tune in to channel 1333. New 3D customers must call (800) 892-2253 to get a programming code added to their account at no extra cost.

NORTH CAROLINA: Former associate head coach John Blake used his university-issued cell phone to call sports agent Gary Wichard 149 times in the past year and a half, according to phone records released by the university.

The calls were between June 2009 and September 2010, according to the records.

Blake's relationship with Wichard is part of investigations by the university, the NCAA, the NFL Players Association and the Secretary of State's office.

Blake resigned on Sept. 5.

Attorneys for Blake said earlier this year that his client received loans from Wichard, but there was never an arrangement to direct players to Wichard once they left for the NFL.

AUBURN: officials aren't talking about embattled quarterback Cam Newton status for the second-ranked Tigers' game with Georgia.

Spokesman Kirk Sampson said Friday the school had 'no comment' when asked about Newton's status. Coach Gene Chizik had said Wednesday the Heisman Trophy front-runner "will be playing Saturday." Chizik hasn't spoken publicly on the issue since.

Newton and his father, Cecil, have both insisted they did nothing wrong during the player's recruitment. Two former Mississippi State players say Cecil Newton sought money during that school's recruitment of Newton.
