High Point City Council got a look at one of the city’s two new portable lead-poisoning-prevention storyboards Monday night.
This launch coincides with the National Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, which starts today.
The storyboards, several feet high and a few panels wide, explain sources for lead and how children can get lead poisoning.
The storyboard, set up at the council meeting, instructs children to pet a stuffed dog toy at the station and then check their hand under a black light, which shows dust particles on their hands. It includes information on lead-poisoning prevention and proper nutrition to alleviate the effects of lead poisoning.
One storyboard will be set up at the Millis Health Education Center, and a second one will travel around the community.
On Oct. 27, the Guilford County Health Department and Lead Safe High Point, an initiative of the city, will host a lead-prevention outreach and awareness campaign in the West End neighborhood.
