Lowes Foods opened a new store today north of Greensboro between Summerfield and Browns Summit.
The store is at 5820-F North Church St. in the 13,000-square-foot Shoppes at Gunter’s Crossing.
The store is hosting several grand opening events this week, including an all-day donation drive Wednesday for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
The N.C. Department of Agriculture will also display its 13-foot-tall grocery cart from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday.
NASCAR Hall of Fame member Junior Johnson will be at the store from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Customers can sample some of his sweet tea and breakfast biscuits and get his autograph.
On Thursday, the store will hold a hot dog cookout from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with proceeds benefiting the United Way.
The store's grand opening gala will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Saturday will be "kid's fun day" with events that include a visit by the Pillsbury Doughboy, the Greensboro Grasshoppers mascot and a balloon artist.
Lowes Foods, founded in 1954, employs 8,500 people and operates 111 stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
