Police: Man asking for cigarette robs Greensboro hotel
GREENSBORO — A man robbed the Suburban Lodge on Thursday night after asking for a cigarette, police said.
About 9:40 p.m., a clerk at the hotel at 6009 Landmark Center Blvd. was standing at the rear door to the office when a man asked if he could borrow a cigarette, Greensboro police said in a news release.
The clerk propped the door open and went inside to get one.
The man followed the clerk and displayed a black, semi-automatic 9mm handgun, police said. He ordered the clerk to give him money from the register in a plastic bag. He then ordered the clerk to lie on the ground while he left through the front door.
Police described him as black, 5 feet 7 inches tall and having a slender build and medium complexion. He was wearing a black bandana on his head, a gray jacket and a white T-shirt.
Police ask those with information about this incident to call Crimestoppers at 373-1000.
