FRANKLINVILLE — Randolph County fire crews are battling a blaze at an old mill in the eastern part of the county.

The fire broke out at 4:17 a.m. Thursday at 1306 Andrew Hunter Road, the site of the former Franklinsville Manufacturing Co.

A Randolph County emergency dispatcher said no injuries were reported. There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.

The Randolph County Historic Landmark Preservation Commission says the mill was originally built in 1838 and was the second mill constructed in the county. Most of the existing building was built before 1900.

The mill was later known as Randolph Mills. By the 1960s it employed 550 people. It ceased production in 1977.
