RALEIGH, (AP) — The North Carolina National Guard is activating 81 personnel to prepare to deploy to trouble spots in the wake of Hurricane Earl.
A ststement from the agency said the soldiers and airmen were scheduled to gather in Edenton on Wednesday evening to begin preparing to support emergency operations.
Maj. Matt Handley said the soldiers and airmen will respond based on calls from county emergency management officials.
The guard said there are an additional 150 Guardsmen on standby who will be used for command and control, working as liaisons in N.C. Division of Emergency Management field offices, assisting in logistics operations. They will also provide a variety of security or reconnaissance assistance to emergency personnel.
Also, two UH-60 Blackhawk aircraft and crews will be readied at their headquarters in Salisbury.
