GIBSONVILLE — The Gibsonville Board of Aldermen received an update on the town-owned Azalea Circle senior citizens apartments at the Aug. 16 agenda meeting.

Pat Somers with Partnership Property Management, which manages the apartments, presented a financial report and said the apartments are in “very good, stable financial condition.” She said there are no vacant apartments, and the waiting list is between six months and a year. Mayor Lenny Williams said he wants the town to consider refinancing the property to pay for construction of additional apartment units.

The apartments are available to elderly, disabled or handicapped people. Rent is based upon income and is subsidized by the USDA’s Rural Development program.

The board scheduled its next regular meeting on Sept. 8, a Wednesday, because of the Labor Day holiday.

At that meeting, it will review a request from Heather Bjork for a town resolution regarding environmental standards for hospital, medical and infectious waste incinerators. Bjork, a Burlington resident, is concerned about the impact of air quality from the Stericycle incinerator in Haw River and spoke to the board in July. She is partnering with the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League in asking local municipalities to approve a resolution requesting incinerators to adopt EPA standards before they are required in 2014.

The board also will review proposed changes to the town’s personnel policy. The board approved an updated policy this year, but the labor attorney hired by the town to review the policy will recommend some changes.

The board is scheduled to adopt an ethics policy, a new requirement by the state.
