GREENSBORO — A fire that started on a stove top damaged two apartments this morning.
The fire broke out at 3927 Hahns Lane, a unit at the Ashton Woods Apartment Homes, at 11:23 a.m. Friday. Greensboro firefighters had the blaze under control about 11:50 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
Apartment C, where the fire broke out, sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Apartment B had some smoke damage. The fire department did not immediately know the extent of the damage.
Gregory White, who lives in Apartment C, said he was frying chicken for lunch when the fire broke out. He tried to put out the blaze himself, but he said the fire extinguisher in the apartment did not work.
White and his girlfriend, 26-year-old April Hall, got out of the apartment safely.
White, 19, said he plans to stay with his grandmother.
The apartment block where the fire broke out has two stories and six individual apartments.
