GREENSBORO — A local lawyer who is a candidate for a Guilford County Superior Court judge's seat was arrested Sunday in Mecklenburg County on charges he harassed and entered a woman’s apartment without permission.

Joseph Floyd II, 43, was arrested just after 10 a.m. Sunday in the 800-block of Southwest Drive in Davidson near the woman’s apartment, said Sgt. Barney Poole of the Davidson Police Department.

Floyd allegedly entered the apartment without permission using a key that he knew the location of, Poole said. Poole said the victim was reported to be Floyd's ex-girlfriend.

Prior to the incident, Floyd allegedly had sent the woman harassing text messages and voice mails for two days after being told to stop, Poole said.

He said the victim took out warrants against Floyd at the criminal magistrate’s office, which led to his arrest.

Floyd was arrested without incident and taken to the Mecklenburg County jail where he was charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering and making harassing phone calls. He was released from jail after posting an $800 bond.

“These are simply allegations at this time, I hope people would not rush to judgment,” Floyd said Monday.

“It was a complete misunderstanding between two former friends and I feel certain these charges will be resolved at the appropriate time.”

Floyd, who is a trial lawyer in High Point, is running against incumbent Superior Court Judge Lindsay R. Davis Jr. for his seat in District 18D in November.

The town of Davidson is 20 miles north of Charlotte.
