June was hottest ever in Greensboro

Last month was the hottest June on record at Piedmont Triad International Airport, since records began being kept in 1928.

The monthly average high temperature last month at PTI was 79.8 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Raleigh. This broke the old record of 79 degrees set in June 1952.

Last month, only two days recorded average temperatures at or below normal. Daily average temperatures were above normal for the other 28 days in the month.

PTI recorded 17 days with high temperatures of 90 degrees or higher. This is the second most on record behind June 1944 and 1952, which tied at 20 days. The normal number of days with high temperatures at or above 90 degrees in June is eight.

The hottest day in June 2010 was June 27 with a high temperature of 96 degrees and an average temperature of 85 degrees.

The top 5 warmest Junes on record at PTI are:

  • 79.8 degrees in June 2010
  • 79 degrees in June 1952
  • 78.8 degrees in June 2008
  • 78.2 degrees in June 1943
  • 77.8 degrees in June 1981

Raleigh-Durham International Airport also recorded the warmest June there on record.
