Why the Hokies won: Left-hander Justin Wright turned in the best pitching performance of the season for Virginia Tech. Wright (8-4) held Georgia Tech to two earned runs, walking two and striking out 15 in his second complete game of the year.

Worth noting: Of the 18 hitters in the two Techs' starting lineups, 15 came in batting at least .303. ... Georgia Tech hit an ACC-best 111 home runs during the regular season, and two of the Yellow Jackets four hits against Wright were solo shots.

Play of the game: After McGuire retired the first two batters of the game, Virginia Tech's Steve Domecus worked out a walk and took second on a wild pitch. Hokies cleanup hitter Austin Wates hit a two-run homer and Virginia Tech led for good.
