A planned cooperative grocery in Burlington will receive a $298,460 Main Street Solutions Fund grant from the state.

The money will help the city and Company Shops Market retrofit the market’s future location at 268 E. Front St, in downtown Burlington, according to a news release. The city of Burlington will invest an additional $1.73 million in street and streetscape improvements.

The project is expected to create 11 full-time, 14 part-time and 59 construction jobs.

The market will be a 7,000-square-foot, full-service natural food store and café. More information about it is online at www.companyshopsmarket.coop

I have shopped at a co-op grocery in Hillsboro,NC called The Weaver Street Market. When they are set up and run right, they are a great place to find local grown / made goods at good prices. I am more than happy to shop at a co-op grocery.
Congratulations to Burlington for for helping to bring one to their area.

Hi Downtown Greensboro property owners, City Council and DGI. Meet Burlington, NC. They are achieving a downtown grocery store with what looks like many parties working together. I know, I know, you say there aren't enough people living in downtown Greensboro to justify a grocer, but how many people live in downtown Burlington? Seriously, we're being outdone by Burlington!! Winston-Salem has a Whole Foods downtown. Hillsborough has a Weaver St. Market downtown. How much longer do we wait? When will all the cheerleading and talk for a downtown grocery store become a priority and turn into some action?
