WINSTON-SALEM — Dell Inc. is giving its computer factory its fourth reprieve and will keep it open until early next year.
The company announced last year that it would close its plant early this year, but the company delayed the closing three times.
The fourth delay was announced today. The new closing date is sometime in January 2011, right before the end of the company's fiscal year. The company did not issue an exact date.
"We're continuing to need product that's built in Winston-Salem," Dell spokesman David Frink said. "It's really as simple as that."
The company announced last month that the plant would remain open through Oct. 29. Earlier closing dates were April and July.
The personal computer plant has 400 Dell employees and an undisclosed number of contract workers.
The plant opened in October 2005. The company already has repaid local incentives.
