Ellen DeGeneres to donate meals to Guilford County Animal Shelter

GREENSBORO -- The Guilford County Animal Shelter will receive 5,000 pet meals from a pet care product company owned by comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

WFMY News 2 requested assistance from DeGeneres' company, Halo, after the shelter took in most of the 97 dogs seized from a Pleasant Garden kennel earlier this month. The kennel's owner and an employee were charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.

According to WFMY, meteorologist Ed Matthews presented shelter director Marsha Williams on Saturday with a certificate promising 5,000 pet meals to be shipped direclty from Halo Pet Care Products.

Ellen DeGeneres, Halo Pet Care Products, PETCO, and WFMY are partners in the National Pet Adoption Weekend that takes place this Saturday and Sunday.
