GREENSBORO — Two men from Charlotte face a host of charges after state troopers and local police went on a chase that reached speeds of 110 mph and lasted about 45 minutes Thursday morning.
The chase involved a Nissan Pathfinder reported stolen in Charlotte on Wednesday night. The Highway Patrol gave this account:
A trooper saw the Nissan on northbound Interstate 85 following another vehicle too closely about 9 a.m. Thursday. The trooper tried to stop the SUV, but the driver sped away.
Greensboro police and Guilford County sheriff’s deputies joined the chase as it continued on Mount Hope Church Road. There, the SUV’s driver stopped to let out a passenger. The trooper stopped to take the passenger into custody.
A sheriff’s deputy spotted the SUV moments later on Alamance Church Road. The chase resumed south on I -85 into High Point, where High Point police became involved.
The Highway Patrol put out spike strips near the N.C. 62/Liberty Road exit. The SUV crashed in the median just north of the Main Street exit in Archdale. The vehicle came to rest on its side just over the county line in Randolph County. Troopers arrested the driver.
No injuries were reported.
The Highway Patrol identified the driver as 22-year-old Sanchez Lamar Connor of Charlotte and the passenger as 18-year-old Darius Jamohn Carr of Charlotte.
Both face a felony charge of possession of a stolen vehicle. The Highway Patrol said Connor also will be charged with speeding to elude police, failure to stop, and careless and reckless driving.
