When 60 area teen models hit the runway today in the Pure Fashion Premier Annual Fashion Show in Greensboro, they will don clothing, hairstyles and makeup with a modest theme. No bare bellies. No tight skirts.
In preparation for the show, the girls, ages 14 to 18, took part in a seven-month model-training program that covered public speaking, manners and social graces, hair and makeup artistry and personal presentation.
“Pure Fashion models learn the importance of living a life in accordance with God’s will and fostering a life of grace through purity of heart, mind and body,” said Trish Klier, co-chairwoman of the event.
Pure Fashion is a nonprofit international organization and a faith-based program that encourages teen girls to live, act and dress in accordance with their dignity as children of God, Klier said.
“Pure Fashion focuses on guiding young women to become confident, competent leaders who live the virtues of modesty and purity in their schools and communities,” she said. “Our core principles are purity, authenticity, generosity, confidence, style and grace.”
Klier and her daughter have been attending Pure Fashion shows for years.
Two years ago when they moved to Greensboro from the Washington area, where Klier said the shows are popular, they started attending shows in Raleigh and Charlotte.
“I felt called to assist in bringing Pure Fashion to the Greensboro youth and families,” Klier said.
The Greensboro show is from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center. WFMY News 2 weekend anchor Tracey McCain is the keynote speaker.
Girls are chosen for the program by applying online and selecting Greensboro as the city.
Though it is too late to purchase tickets for today’s show, the program is accepting applications for the 2010-11 Pure Fashion training program, and all girls in grades 8 through 12 are eligible.
Girls will showcase the latest spring fashions from local retailers such as Forever 21, Be Precious Boutique, Myline’s Bridal Boutique and Simply Elegant Boutique of South Carolina. In addition, GTCC students, UltraPure Cosmetics and Merle Norman staff will provide hair and makeup for the girls, and an all-male Christian band will perform.
“We hope the girls learn all our core principles and that God created them for respect and dignity, deserving to be loved because of who they are, not for what they wear or what they bare,” Klier said. “The Pure Fashion models are formed to be leaders, and they will undoubtedly impact the youth of Greensboro.”
Klier said she hopes this year’s show will be the first of many Pure Fashion shows in Greensboro.
“We have found such open hearts and generous support among national and local sponsors and Greensboro residents who feel that our teen girls need to be uplifted to the dignity and respect for which God created them,” Klier said. “The Pure Fashion program is a fun, fashion-trendy means to unite and strengthen families to remain above society’s negative influences.”
