GREENSBORO -- After building an 18-point halftime lead, Guilford was just trying to hang on in the second half against The College of Wooster. That is when Clay Henson hit a 3-pointer to give the Quakers all the momentum they would need to close out a 75-68 win over the Fighting Scots.

The Quakers advance to the sectional finals against ODAC nemesis Eastern Mennonite tonight at 7 o'clock at Ragan Brown Field House on the Guilford College campus, the same place where the Royals beat the Quakers by 27 points during the regular season.

The winner goes to the Division III Final Four in Salem, Va., next week.

"I wanted revenge," Guilford center Tyler Sanborn said. "If we play the way we are supposed to we will win. I'm not trying to be cocky, I'm just confident. We just want to show them how we really play."

The Scots cut Guilford's lead to 48-42 when Henson saw a little opening and took a chance.

"We hadn't scored in a while," Henson said. "I just happened to get a look near the 3-point line. Coach doesn't always like us taking a 3-pointer that quick, but it went in."

After that, every time the Scots made it close, the Quakers had the answer with either 6-foot-10 Sanborn, who finished with a team-high 21 points, or Henson, who added 15 points. Wooster got no closer than five points the rest of the way as Guilford wrapped it up by going 12-of-16 at the free throw line in the final two minutes.

"That gave us a bounce. It gave us some energy," said Guilford coach Tom Palombo about Henson's shot. "I don't think there was anybody on our bench that was tired after that shot."

Guilford led 40-22 at halftime, but the Scots made a comeback early in the second half with a 14-4 run in the first six minutes. Ian Franks led the way with seven points during the run that cut the Guilford lead to 44-36.

Two free throws by the Quakers Gabriel Lowder stopped the run, but only temporarily. Matt Fegan then hit a 3-pointer for Wooster and Bryan Wickliffe added long jumper, cutting the lead to 46-41.

"I don't know that we lost intensity," Palombo said. "They just came out and made shots. We were playing hard. We just weren't making shots."

A layup by Sanborn gave the Quakers a little bit of cushion, but a free throw by Wooster's Brandon Johnson made the score 48-42.

Both teams picked up the intensity on defense and the offenses struggled to adjust. That was when Henson stepped up and knocked down a long 3-pointer with a defender in his face for a 51-42 lead and the momentum would never swing back to the Scots.

Sanborn got the Quakers off to a quick start, scoring six points as Guilford built a 14-3 lead. The Quakers were just as proficient from the outside as they were with Sanborn. T.C. Anderson, Henson, Martin Stephenson and Rhett Bonner all hit from behind the 3-point arc to help the Quakers build a 23-11 lead.

Sanborn amassed a career-high 23 rebounds and collected his 28th career double-double.
