RALEIGH (AP) — Gov. Beverly Perdue says an inspector has been sent to Robeson County in southern North Carolina after her Facebook fan page was flooded with messages from animal rights activists urging her to investigate claims of abuse at an animal shelter there.

The posts began Tuesday and have continued into this morning.

Some of the posts also call for the staff at the shelter to be replaced.

In a response on her page dated Wednesday afternoon, Perdue said she appreciates the "passionate calls for action." Her response also says she's contacted the Commissioner of Agriculture's office and that the department's veterinary office has sent an inspector to Robeson County.

Perdue said she trusts they'll ensure state laws are being followed at animal shelters there.

This protest started Sunday afternoon and lasted until Governor Perdue "took "the page back Thursday afternoon.
The meaning less "inspection" was a joke, since the problems are abuse by the Shelter Manager, Jeff Bass.
Bass , who refuses to allow blankets or anything on the cold concrete floors for the animals has publicly stated that his job is animal control, to reduce the population. He publicly said that it is not his job to help adopt, or care for these animals. "This is a County animal control facility, Not the SPCA", Bass Said. Bass, who been accused by numerous individuals and rescue groups of animal abuse, and for killing animals when he knows groups are coming to get them, has denied these charges. What was he going to do in front of the inspectors ? Did they really think he would torture one for them ? Look at all the empty cages there and tell me why one animals has to be killed if not for medical reasons. They must keep the animals 5 full days and they euthanize on the 6th. This is so wrong in so many ways. How can North Carolina allow this to be going on in front of them ? How long can the people in North Carolina remain silent ?
