JACKSONVILLE (AP) — Authorities are investigating whether an 80-year-old man shot and killed his wife at an Alzheimer's care center before turning the gun on himself.
The Onslow County Sheriff's Office said today that investigators found an 80-year-old woman dead from gunshot wounds to the head late Tuesday night at Alzheimer's Related Care in Jacksonville. Deputies said the woman's husband also had a gunshot wound to the head and remains in critical condition.
The sheriff's office said the wife had been a patient at the Alzheimer's facility for about two months and that her husband had visited her daily. The sheriff's office did not release their names but said it was investigating the matter as a murder and attempted suicide.
