GREENSBORO — The Leadership Greensboro Seniors will hold its semi-annual food drive to benefit Greensboro Urban Ministry and its clients.
Volunteers from more than 50 church congregations in the city will collect food at the following grocery stores: Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Lowes Food, Compare Foods, Bestway and Earth Fare. When customers buy groceries, they can select one or more canned or nonperishable food items to donate, such as:
Protein sources
• Tuna, salmon, etc.
• Beef stew, Spam, corned beef
• Peanut butter, 18 oz.
Vegetables
• Greens (turnips, mixed vegetables)
• Green peas
• Tomatoes, corn, green beans
Fruits
• Peaches, pears, fruit cocktail, applesauce
Other Items
• Soup
• Sugar, 2 lbs.
• Dry milk
• Oatmeal, 18 oz.
• Macaroni and cheese
• Bags of dry beans
• Rice, 1 lb. or larger bags
Dietary supplements
• Ensure
Participants are asked not to donate anything in glass containers or open packages.
This spring’s drive will mark the 31st time that Leadership Greensboro Seniors, an active group of retired and semi-retired senior citizens, has coordinated this activity.
Last fall, 72,845 pounds of nonperishable food items were collected and distributed on an emergency basis to nearly 8,000 needy families through Greensboro Urban Ministry.
