NO. 7 BOSTON COLLEGE 67, NO. 2 FLORIDA STATE 60

Why Boston College won

With the game tied 46-46, the Eagles went on an 11-2 run fueled by hitting five of their six shots and never trailed. Boston College hit 57 percent of its shots in the second half. And down the stretch the Eagles hit eight of 10 free throws in the final 80 seconds.

Why Florida State lost

Just three minutes into the game the Seminoles lost leading scorer Jacinta Monroe to an injured ankle. Without its starting center, Florida State's offense bogged down, a situation made worse by dreadful shooting. The Seminoles hit just 21-of-76 shots, including 4-of-28 (14.3 percent) from behind the arc.

Play of the game

Florida State closed the first half on a 13-2 run and had all of the momentum. With 18:23 left, Boston College lost Brittany Johnson to an injury. The Eagles inserted former Page star Jasmine Gill, who scored 13 points.

The key player

Courtney Ward took 20 shots for the Seminoles but hit only three. Seventeen of her shots were 3-pointers and Ward converted just two, one of which came in the final minute with the Seminoles down 11.

What they're saying

"We did a good job of adjusting to how the calls were going. It was physical out there, you know&ellipses; I thought our players kicked it to that mode where it was cut throat for us today." — Sylvia Crawley, Boston College coach

"You know we looked at the stat sheet and we got 33 more shots off than they did. And we just couldn't buy one, and that's not like our team. But it is what it is." —Sue Semrau, Florida State coach

Noting the game

Florida State kept it close thanks to a big game on the offensive glass. The Seminoles had 28 offensive rebounds, which led to 23 second-chance points. Monroe was taken for X-rays and is expected back for the NCAA tournament.
