RALEIGH (AP) — A North Carolina man exonerated after serving more than 16 years in prison for murder is seeking an official pardon from the governor, which could bring monetary compensation.

Greg Taylor went to Gov. Bev Perdue's office Friday to hand over his pardon request. He's eligible for $750,000 in compensation if pardoned.

Taylor, 47, says he hasn't thought about the money. He says he wants the formal pardon to put on his wall.

A three-judge panel declared Taylor innocent at the end of a groundbreaking hearing last month.

He was convicted in 1993 of the murder of a Raleigh prostitute.

The judges heard his case on the recommendation of the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission, the only state-run innocence commission in the country.
