The Google proposal ranks as a low priority

All of this excitement about Google coming to Greensboro has me very frustrated. When I first heard about it, my reaction was that this was incredible and that faster Internet would bring untold opportunities to our region. But I then asked myself, at what cost does this pleasure come? With everything our city is cutting back on for spending and with the sales tax having been raised yet again, I just can’t accept this as a wise investment. Our city has other priorities that should be addressed before we tackle a project this immense.

I would like to have faster Internet, but I would rather not have potholes all over our city and not have my classes at Page High School torn apart by budget cuts. The idea behind this is nice, but the timing is anything but right. Greensboro needs to address its current problems before thinking about investments in a project about whose logistics or costs we really have no idea.

I would dodge potholes for five years if it meant 40x faster surfing speed.

Good LTE Luke. But are there ways to fix potholes AND play at Google's game. We need to find out the costs to the City and weigh them vs the real benefits. What would the real benefits be? I truly dont know.

This looks like one for the Geekery of Gso. Have at it guys and girls. Come out of those basements. Take off your PJs and get to work!

Serously, can we do both?
