— The John Edwards sex-tape scandal is closer to home than a Raleigh courtroom. Guilford County school board Chairman Alan Duncan is representing Rielle Hunter, Edwards’ former mistress and mother of his child.

Duncan and another attorney from the Greensboro firm Smith Moore Leatherwood are representing Hunter in her efforts to retrieve from a former Edwards aide a video believed to depict a sexual encounter between her and the former Democratic senator.

Duncan, who also represents the News & Record and the city of Greensboro, has been a school board member since 2000 and chairman since 2002. Duncan represents most of northeast Greensboro. His seat is up for election this year. Duncan has not filed for election yet because, he said, he has been too busy.

Duncan has been recognized for his work in First Amendment issues and business litigation.

He contributed $2,000 to Edwards’ 2003 presidential campaign and another $2,300 when he ran again in 2007, according the Federal Election Commission.
