The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office charged a woman with using a credit card issued to the American Red Cross for her own use.

Joan Rebecca Eastwood, 22, of 27 Circle Drive in Reidsville was charged with financial card theft and financial card fraud. She is in jail under a $3,000 secured bond.

According to the warrant, Eastwood took a Walmart credit card issued to the Rockingham County Chapter of the American Red Cross at 3692 N.C. Highway 14 in Reidsville.

Deputies said Eastwood was working with the nonprofit after being assigned to the Work First program by the Department of Social Services.

On Dec. 15, she took the card from the Red Cross without its consent. She used the card to buy $1,350 worth of goods, deputies said.

“It is sad when someone misuses the system that is attempting to help them,” said Sheriff Sam Page in a press release, “especially when they steal from a charitable agency that constantly helps those in need.”
