Hal Sieber also played key role for museum

I served on the February One Committee that commemorated the sit-ins in 1980, along with Shirley Frye, George Evans, Alex Stoesen and Jo Spivey, among others.
Co-chairman Hal Sieber made that event an outstanding success by his tireless efforts in national publicity and arranging the myriad details of the banquet. In subsequent years Hal made the annual February One celebration an important occasion to honor those who contributed to civil rights.
While acknowledging the important work of Earl Jones, Skip Alston and the museum staff, the sit-ins were kept before the public’s attention by Sieber’s tireless efforts in the February One Society, and through his writing and teaching about local race relations to schoolchildren over the years. He has never received the credit due for his contributions to the civil rights movement in Greensboro.
It is just and fitting that his efforts be recognized at this time. Our community owes Hal Sieber an immeasurable debt of gratitude as a truly selfless and noble individual.
