Area IHOP restaurants are offering a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes Feb. 23 to raise awareness and money for the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

The restaurant chain's goal is to raise $1.75 million in donations. The restaurant received $1.5 million in donations in 2009.

Donations made at IHOPs in the Greensboro and Winston Salem area will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network program at Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center.

The event is 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

It's nice of IHOP to raise money for children in need, but I worked for one of the local franchises for almost 8 years, and they have racist and discriminatory hiring practices, and when employees test positive for Hepatitis, upper management doesn't report it to the health department, as required by law, but simply fires the employee. I'm all for giving money to desperately ill children and their families, but there has to be a better way to do it than through a company with such horrible practices.

There are no perfect "employers" in this world. There are some really great ones and some really bad ones.. There are always going to be someone that can't find anything positive to say about anything. So please, address your concerns to the appropriate entities if laws are being broken, but don't try to discourage people from participating in this fundraiser. Until you have watched your child battle childhood cancer,(or some other terminal illness) and then watched your child die before your eyes... please don't try to take away from programs that do so much to make these kids lives a little better. Believe me, I have done both. We fought the battle and I laid my child to rest last year.

I am horribly sorry to hear that your family had to go through such a gut-wrenching ordeal. I have a 2 1/2 year old grand-daughter who was born three months premature. She spent the first 5 months of her life at a hospital in Charlotte, which received a great deal of funding from the Children's Miracle Network. I give money to CMN every chance I get, even if I don't have much for myself. I whole-heartedly support CMN, and the March of Dimes. I meant no disrespect to either of these fine organizations, and appologize from the bootm of my heart if I have offended you, personally. I was simply stating that CFRA, ( The franchise that runs most of our local IHOP restaurants ) is run by crooked liars, who do not care about the communties which continue to support them.

No disrespect taken and thank your for your condolences. Hope your grandchild is doing well and continues to thrive. I'm sure that some companies don't care, but the patrons contribute with their hearts. Hope you have a great week.
