Candidate filings

Candidates running for Congress, state legislature and county offices began filing Monday to run for election. The filing period will remain open until Friday, Feb. 26 at noon. The following people filed at the Guilford County or Rockingham County boards of elections or elsewhere in the state for offices that cross into the Greensboro-area.

U.S. Senate

* Mike Beitler of Greensboro filed to run as a libertarian for the seat now held by U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, a Republican.

* Beitler is a speaker, Internet radio host and lecturer in business at UNCG.

U.S. House

* Virginia Foxx, a Banner Elk Republican, filed to run for the 5th Congressional District seat. Foxx is a three-term incumbent.

State Senate

* Phil Berger of Pinewood Place in Eden filed to run in District 26. A Republican, Berger is an incumbent and the minority leader in the chamber. The district represents all of Rockingham County and part of Guilford County.

* Don Vaughan of Sunset Drive in Greensboro filed to run in District 27. A Democrat, Vaughan is a first-term incumbent.

* Katie Dorsett of North English Street in Greensboro filed to run in District 28. A Democrat, Dorsett is an incumbent.

State House

* Nelson Cole of Carpenter Drive in Reidsville filed for District 65. A Democrat, Cole is an incumbent. The district represents southern Rockingham County.

* Jon Hardister of Forestdale Drive in Greensboro filed for District 57. A Republican, Hardister is running for a seat held by Democrat Rep. Pricey Harrison.

* Alma Adams of Liberty Valley Road in Greensboro filed for District 58. A Democrat, Adams is an incumbent.

* Gerald Grubb of Brandywine Street in High Point filed for District 61. He is a Republican.

The seat is held by Republican Rep. Laura Wiley, who does not plan to run for re-election.

* John Blust of Christian Place in Greensboro filed for District 62. A Republican, Blust is the incumbent.

* Jeffrey Simon of Rock Springs Road in Greensboro filed for District 62. Simon is a Libertarian.

Guilford County Sheriff

* Harlon Costner of Royster Road in Greensboro is a Democrat.

* Phil Wadsworth of Alliance Church Road in Pleasant Garden is a Democrat.

* BJ Barnes of Pleasant Ridge Road in Summerfield is a Republican. Barnes is the incumbent.

Guilford County Clerk of Court

* David Churchill of West Friendly Avenue in Greensboro is a Democrat and the incumbent.

Guilford County Commissioners

* Linda Shaw of Bennington Drive in Greensboro filed for Commissioner District 3. Shaw, a Republican, is the incumbent.

* Kay Cashion of West Greenway Drive in Greensboro filed for Commissioner District 6. Cashion, a Democrat, is the incumbent.

* Carolyn Coleman of Stonebridge Road in Pleasant Garden filed for Commissioner District 9. Coleman, a Democrat, is the incumbent.

Guilford County Board of Education

* Nancy Routh of Hagan-Stone Park Road in Pleasant Garden filed to run at large. Routh is the incumbent.

* Jeff Lee Belton of Merrill Drive in Greensboro filed to run in District 6.

Rockingham County Sheriff

* Sam Page of Madison Street in Eden is a Republican. He is the incumbent.

* Bryan Wallace of Snead Road in Stoneville is a Democrat.

Rockingham County Clerk of Court

* Mark Pegram of Blueberry Road in Reidsville is the incumbent. He is a Democrat.

Rockingham County Commissioner

* Amelia Dallas of Creek-ridge Drive in Eden is a Democrat and an incumbent.

* Keith Mabe of Meadowwood Road in Eden is a Republican.

* Craig Travis of Harrison Crossroad Loop in Reidsville is a Republican.
