President’s plan promises help for the middle class

Monday, February 8, 2010
(Updated 3:00 am)

The president’s new plan to help the middle class is long overdue. This will help the working middle class get a break and may be the light at the end of a long tunnel.

The most immediate effect of helping the middle class could be increased consumer spending, which could directly improve sales and job growth in the retail and manufacturing sectors.

It is time we expand our high-speed rail system so that commuting becomes less expensive and easier. I wish I could take a train from Burlington to Raleigh to work and not have to sit in the traffic, besides saving money on gas, which I would spend for shopping or saving for my kids’ college.

It is time that small businesses free themselves from the tentacles of the big banks and start co-ops with the help of the government and sustain themselves for credit and cash. There are success stories in many economies for this approach. I think the president’s plan should be a good start.

If the congressmen and senators still think they are working for the people who elected them and not for the lobbyists and corporations, they should support our president’s plan.

Which new plan is this? I know that he plans to make walking easier for everyone by giving us lighter wallets to carry around. Is that the plan you're talking about?

President Obama is a black man -- and you "just can't stand to know it," can you, "dusty" sawdust? You've got a "little racist streak" in you, haven't you, MENSA-man? And it shows LOUDLY when you talk about POTUS! Yes it does!

Seriously.

Sawdust

February 8, 2010 - 9:36 am EST

And you are an idiot. You have zero data to back that statement. I've said it before; I don't care if he is purple with green stripes, I want him to do his constitutional duty, about which he seems to be very confused, as do you.

Don't nibble at troll bait sawdust.

xeno10

February 8, 2010 - 10:34 am EST

Oh, so my comment to sawdust "jerked your chain" too, danagain? Well, now, do you have "a little (or big) streak" in yourself? Or, is it just a "moderate streak?" -- or a "right-wing streak?" -- or, well, you "name it!"

So, as sawdust suggests, "where's the evidence? Well, there ain't many black folks present at "tea-parties" and right-wing "GOP parties" and places like that -- you know, YOUR "place!" Maybe?

Seriously.

Xeno, why do you turn everything into a race issue?

truman, do you mean that Michael Steele doesn't know his place?

sawdust, what you are, speaks so loudly, that I cannot hear what you say! Or something like that! Seriously.

I think you've made statements that could easily be characterized as racist before. Perhaps they were isolated incidents and perhaps they were not.

My beef with Obama has nothing to do with the color of his skin, everything to do with the "content of his character", as someone once said. I believe that Obama is dishonest, incompetent, arrogant, and narcissistic. And I dare anyone to prove otherwise. He only proves it every single day.

You also said cast watermelon and fried chicken.

Sawdust

February 8, 2010 - 11:58 am EST

That was from the NBC studio kitchen. The manager had fried chicken, etc. on the menu in honor of Black History Month. Or, as I call it, White People and America Suck" month.

Get off it,

Dude's black half is OK...it is his limousine liberal white half that's causing all the problems.

terrier2003

Xeno does more for me to question the black agenda than anybody else. Infact I never questioned it before. And besides, can we really call Obama black? I mean, a half black Hawaiian metrosexual is probably a better description.

I'll be an equal opportunity racist, I dislike his white half also.

Just the thought that a black guy might be smarter than him really scares him.

Remember he is in the top 2% world wide.

Sawdust

February 8, 2010 - 10:04 pm EST

My two favorite authors and columnists are Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams, both of whom are black. I readily admit that they are smarter than I, especially about economics, though I can probably cut a dovetail joint better than either of them. You should read them, you could learn something, if you don't mind reading someone smarter than you. And if you do mind, your reading is probably limited to the opinion and comic pages of the N&R.

I ask again

Your Brag.

What Test
What Score
Who Monitored
From the internet?

I don't claim to be in the top 2%
You do.

Surely you will share basis of this claim with us.

Why not?
What about it don't you want to reveal?

I simply don't understand.

Oh,

Most of what I read ( books/mags/etc.) is written by people smarter than me.

Also if I claimed to be in the top 2% of intelligence I would reveal the source.
I will take your word.
No comment or future reference from me.
Scouts honor.

Lets see if you have the balls

Hi-speed rail makes economic sense ONLY in continuously densely populated areas like Japan. Otherwise, it will be a huge new government boondoggle. Remember, at the end of the line in places like North Carolina, people still have get around, which requires cars.

Tom's basically right about high speed trains, though I would like to see more public transportation.

This can become a game. Pin the tail on the left's most pressing issues.

For the past 6 months it's gone like this:

H1N1>Health Care>Climate Change/Green Energy>High Speed Rail>?

What is the next dire crisis/issue that will generate letters to the Editor influenced by Organizing for America/Barak Obama dot com?

I'm sure high speed rail from Burlington to Raleigh would be a huge money maker.

Sawdust

February 8, 2010 - 9:37 am EST

Run it through Pelham, and it can't fail.

hugh

February 8, 2010 - 12:10 pm EST

It won't be high speed having to stop in Mebane, Hillsborough, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Cary before reaching Raleigh. Or will those towns be disenfranchised from high speed rail access?

And don't forget Charlotte. There won't be high speed rail unless they are included.

Thomasville, that will be a hoot to see an elevated track running through town. I'm sure the folks on their who have houses backing up to the tracks will be real happy having them condemned for another track to be laid.
