OPINION

Alston’s actions indicate he’s the one who’s racist

Monday, February 8, 2010
(Updated 3:00 am)

If you ask me, Skip Alston is the real racist one! It absolutely disgusts me that he always tries to pull the “race card.” I applaud Mayor Knight and our City Council members for standing up for themselves.

As our representatives, they must ask the tough questions about this proposed downtown hotel. For Mr. Alston to threaten council members with a recall and to say Mayor Knight is only looking “to take care of white business interests in Greensboro,” is absurd, foolish and untruthful.

If Mr. Alston wasn’t going to make any money off this deal, race wouldn’t be an issue at all here. His recent tactics clearly show his resentment toward the “white” citizens of Greensboro.

Mr. Alston, you, sir, are the racist one!

Greg Barbour II
Greensboro

Mr. Barbour, you say that Mr. Alston: "ALWAYS tries to pull the race card," And: "...his tactics CLEARLY show his resentment toward WHITE citizens of Greensboro."

Well, now, I suspect your remarks show that you may have at least a "little streak of racism" in YOURSELF! Don't you agree with me?

And Mayor Bill Knight (a white man) may be just a little more prone to attend to the needs of a white person -- than to needs of a black person! Maybe? Who really knows? -- who cares? (Except a person "with a little streak of racism" in him/her" -- maybe?)

Seriously.

Bill Knight's classy behavior at the CRM opening disproves your last statement, xeno.

C'mon Panacea, did Mayor Knight's "classy behavior" PROVE or DISPROVE anything -- "beyond the shadow of a doubt?" Hmmmm? I really don't think so! Or, maybe, it only demonstrated that when "one is before Romans, one performs as the Romans do!" Or, something like that!

Seriously.

I'd prefer to take a glass half full rather than half empty approach. Knight made a good start. There are plenty of other issues for you to cheapen. You demean yourself by picking this one.

I met Mayor Knight and had the pleasure of hearing him speak. He is a very humble man who came out of retirement because he thought he could help ALL of the citizens of Greensboro. BTW he made no comments of helping specific citizens based upon their race or anything else for that matter. Being a former CPA, he is obviously concerned about fiscal responsibility, a trait that is quite rare with politicians these days.

danagain, I quite understand why you are immediately and favorably impressed with our CPA-Republican Mayor Bill Knight! And I understand he is reading Newt Gingrich's new book! Voila' Enough said. Seriously.

"Being a former CPA, he is obviously concerned about fiscal responsibility"

Now I don't know about Mr. Knight.

But given.

Enron
Madoff
Tyco
Health South
Arthur Andersen
Wachovia
Wall Street in general

It is not obvious that CPA's are concerned about fiscal responsibility.

They are however very concerned about money.

Once again the intellectually lacking and race baiting xeno spews forth more unfounded allegations in classic Alinsky fashion. Xeno, which leftist activist group are you affiliated with? ACORN? Organizing for America?

Achtung, hugh! Thanks for the compliments! Seriously.

Alston simply likes green ( Money )
For a fee he would speak at a KKK prayer breakfast ( working on redemption ).

He will play any card.
It's an American tradition.
Money, anything short of murder.
