I thought our community had taken a huge leap forward after the presidential election. President Obama had shown us how to run a campaign without insulting us by playing the race card.
Obama simply stood on his own merits.
Skip Alston and the other owners of the Ole Asheboro Hotel project have now played the race card and lowered the bar on community relations into the mud. Had they shown that their project could stand scrutiny in the light of day, then we would not have this embarrassment.
Why did Alston protest so loudly? Is there something in this project to hide?
Is he ramming this down Greensboro’s throat?
The News & Record needs to share the blame as well, based on my reading of Sunday’s update (Jan. 31). The article went out of its way to cite comments by the principals in the dispute and then identifies them as either black or white. Why?
Should I change the way I think about a person’s comments because of his race? Definitely not.
If I were supposed to judge this issue based on race, then I would be in Skip’s mud puddle. No, thanks.
By the way, am I white or black? It doesn’t matter.
